Ultrasound uses sound waves rather than radiation to look inside the body. It is painless, takes only a few minutes, and is safe in pregnancy. Scans are performed and reported on site, so your clinician can act on the result immediately.
What this includes
- Obstetric scans covering dating, growth, position and wellbeing of the baby
- Pelvic and gynaecological ultrasound
- Abdominal ultrasound of the liver, gallbladder, kidneys, spleen and pancreas
- Renal and urinary tract scans
- Soft tissue, breast and thyroid scans
- Same-day written report shared with your clinician
Before you come in
- For abdominal scans you may be asked to fast for 6 to 8 hours.
- For pelvic and early pregnancy scans, come with a full bladder.
- Wear loose clothing that is easy to lift or lower.
